EV Retailing, John Clark, Motor finance challenge

The pace of change in EV retailing was the focus of attention at the Motor Trader EV Retailing Summit 2022, which took place at the Eastside Rooms in Birmingham. Sales of EVs in the UK continue to grow and dealers are at the sharp end with consumers, covering all areas of retailing from new and used EVs through to aftersales, finance, training and charging infrastructure.

The NFDA has a strong presence at the Summit. It has been ahead of the game with the launch in 2019 of the EVA scheme, to help dealers to sell EVs, communicating effectively with customers on sales, aftersales and running EVs.

The summit looked at EVs and how they will impact revenues from parts sales and servicing over the next few years. There were also sessions on EV training, recruitment, digital, data security and the agency model. Check out the videos on MotorTrader.com.

This month we look at John Clark Motor Group, which has been undergoing change. The group delivered a strong performance in 2021, nearly quadrupling its pre-tax profits to £24.06m on turnover up 26.1% to £910.3m. Motor Trader spoke to Chris Clark, group managing director at John Clark, on taking 2020 as an opportunity for change, handling supply issues and a cost-of-living crisis, and the group’s approach to sustainability (P20)

The Motor Trader Independent Dealer Awards took place at the Eastside Rooms in Birmingham on 6 October. The awards welcomed entries from independent used car dealers operating in the UK, celebrating excellence and best practice in used car retailing. There were 12 categories for used car retailing, including Independent Dealer of the Year and Fastest Growing Dealer. There were also categories for skills training, business excellence and sales performance. Check them out starting P29.

And finally, to the roundtable this month where dealers and finance houses grappled with the challenges they face in motor finance as we shift through the final quarter and take a forward look into 2023.
